Bring the messy stuff.
PDFs, scans, phone photos. Upload your logs; pages are split and grouped by boring automatically.
UploadFor geotechnical engineers, geologists and drillers
Upload scanned SPT and hand-auger logs. Get back clean data you can check, edit and export.
SplitSpoon reads the depths, blow counts, samples and soil descriptions, and flags anything it isn’t sure of beside the source. You make the call, then export log sheets, cross-sections, AGS4, DXF and CSV.

How it works
The log starts in the field. The insight starts with you. SplitSpoon takes care of the five steps in between.
PDFs, scans, phone photos. Upload your logs; pages are split and grouped by boring automatically.
UploadChoose a quality level and see your quote before anything runs. You approve every extraction.
QuoteSeparate passes read headers, depths, samples, and notes.
ExtractCheck flagged fields beside the original source. Confirm or correct, with a review queue and full undo.
ReviewExport clean log sheets with a key to symbols, cross-sections, AGS4, an editable DXF bundle, CSV, and GeoJSON. Ready for your next step.
ExportTime back
A 20-minute manual write-up becomes about 2 minutes of unattended processing, then a short confirmation by you. Slide the count to see a week’s worth of logs.
Hands-on time back across 30 logs. Less typing, more room for the work that needs you.
Illustration, not a benchmark. 20 min of manual work per log against 2 min of unattended processing plus your chosen confirmation time. Bars add up per-log work on a 0–40 hour scale with 8-hour days marked; they are not a batch completion estimate. Real timing depends on scan quality, complexity, and quality level.
The toolkit
From the first blow count to the final section, the details that matter are already part of the toolkit.
Human in the loop
Per-field confidence brings the uncertain values to you. See the source crop, compare alternative reads, and make the call yourself.
Your review is part of the record. Always.
SPT N-values, refusal tokens, USCS symbols, density, and consistency. SPT logs and hand augers each get their own pipeline.
Correlate horizons, edit cross-sections, add groundwater, and explore borings in a 3D terrain scene.
Import shapefiles with automatic CRS detection. Export GeoJSON for ArcGIS or QGIS, AGS4 or a gINT-style CSV set for data exchange, and CSV for everything else. AGS4 and gINT CSV files import straight into a project, with no extraction credits.
Checkpointed jobs resume after an interrupted connection. You don’t pay to run the same work twice.
Updates
As new features roll out they are included in our per-page prices. Prices can change with notice (Terms §7.4).
Better workflows, refinements, and new capabilities come with the updates. You keep paying for the pages the AI reads, with more ways to put that data to work.
Proposed updates. Scope and timing to be confirmed.
Remove sensitive information inside SplitSpoon, review a newly exported copy, then send only that copy for AI interpretation. The goal: control what leaves the app before the AI ever sees it.
The redacted export would need to remove the underlying text and image content, not just cover it with a black box.
Point out the depth column, identify the blow counts, and show it where the notes live. Reusable template guidance could help extraction find the right information more efficiently on familiar log layouts.
Think of it as teaching the layout of your forms. You would still review the extracted values and keep the final say.
Pricing
Editing, storage, cross-sections, 3D, and exports are included. No seats. No monthly fee. Credits stay on your account for a year. On a single PDF, pages that are not logs (lab sheets, plans, cover, report text) are left out of the quote by default; you can add them back and re-quote.
| Log type | Budget | Balanced | Max | Max+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SPT boring | 40 | 60 | 80 | 180 |
| Hand auger | 20 | 30 | 40 | 90 |
Credits are priced at 1¢ each. Economy runs are half price, with results in hours. Max+ carries additional provider-retention conditions; read the details.
Bigger packs carry bonus credits. The outlined pack covers the estimate above.
Security
Browser-encrypted project storage. A vault passphrase you hold. Straight answers about what goes to the AI provider and how long it stays.
Follow the data, step by stepQuestions
Made for geologists, engineers, and the people out in the field.
It is built to replace transcription while keeping professional review central. Every field carries a confidence signal. Uncertain values appear beside the source crop. Verify AI-extracted values before use.
SPT boring logs and hand-auger profiles: typed, handwritten, scanned, faxed, or photographed. Multi-page files are grouped by boring number. Poor scans receive an enhancement pass.
No. SplitSpoon runs in a modern browser on Windows or Mac. Export your deliverables as PDF log sheets with a key to symbols, cross-sections, AGS4, an editable DXF bundle, a gINT-style CSV set, and GeoJSON.
Jobs save checkpoints and resume from the last completed stage after a connection drops or a laptop closes, so completed stages are not run again. A failed job costs nothing unless you resume it. A resumed job is charged its metered cost across both attempts, capped at the quote you approved (Terms §7.3), and cancelling charges only the pages already processed, never more than the approved quote.
Projects are encrypted in your browser with your vault key. AI extraction requires the provider to read rendered page images; AI layer correlation sends the requested boring summaries. Read the security and data-handling page for the full boundaries, provider retention, and deletion settings.
Use the recovery key shown during setup. Without your passphrase or recovery key, nobody, including SplitSpoon, can decrypt your projects. Keep your recovery key somewhere your firm can find it.
No. New features are included in the per-page prices shown above. Prices can change with notice (Terms §7.4).
Not yet. They’re proposed updates on our future-improvement list, with scope and release timing still to be confirmed. Redaction would happen inside the app, with a new redacted export created and reviewed before it is sent to AI. Template teaching would let you identify columns and field locations to guide future reads of that layout.
Not at launch. Firm accounts with shared credits and editor/viewer roles are planned after beta.
Accounts with no sign-in for 12 months and no credits left are warned, then deleted at 15 months. You can delete your data yourself at any time. See the retention details.
We’re inviting firms and drillers in small batches. Get an early look at a better way to work below the surface.
