Help for beta testers
From a scanned log
to an export.
Three steps: upload and extract a log, review what was read, and export it. You can also try the app first on a sample project that is never saved.
Step 1
Upload and extract a log.
- Open the app at app.splitspoon.ai. Without a session it takes you to the sign-in page. Choose Create account the first time and enter the invite code you were sent, or choose Sign in if you already have an account.
- Creating an account asks you to agree to the Terms of Service. You can use an email and password, or Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft.
- On first use the app asks you to Set up your vault with a passphrase, then shows a recovery key once. Keep both: we cannot reset either. Later sessions ask you to Unlock your vault. The security page explains why.
Extract
- On the start page choose Extract logs from a PDF, or use Extract > Extract logs... (Ctrl+E). The Extract logs window opens.
- 1 Document type: Boring logs or Hand Auger Logs.
- 2 Source files: pick one or more PDFs or images (PDF, PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP, WebP).
- 3 Options: the Preset menu (Lowest through Ultra, and Max+) trades cost and speed against fidelity. Medium is the default.
Check the quote, then run
- Once files are selected, the Estimated run panel shows the pages, the route, and the Credit cost in credits (cr), with your balance after the run. It updates as you change files or settings.
- If the balance is too low the panel says so. Open File > Buy credits..., or File > Credits & usage... to see your balance and history.
- Choose Run extraction. If the price rises above what you approved, the app stops and asks in a Price changed window before starting at the new price. Some presets also show a provider data-retention notice that you must accept first.
- Progress appears under In progress. You can choose Minimize & Continue Working and keep using the app. Finished runs move to Completed; choose Import results to bring them into your project.
Step 2
Review the extracted data.
- Open the Review tab. The badge on it counts the values waiting for a check. The list shows each flagged value by boring and sample; pick one to see it.
- Each flagged value is shown with the crop of the scanned sheet it came from, the value that was read, and how confident the read was. Change the value in the box if the sheet says something different, then choose Confirm value, or Skip for now to come back to it.
- When everything has been checked the tab says Every extracted value has been checked.
- The Data, Samples, Boring log and Cross-section tabs show the same project as tables and drawings. Values that still need review carry a marker there too.
You are the check. Extracted values must be verified by a qualified professional before use. Review is how you do that.
Step 3
Export.
Exports are spread over three menus.
- Export menu: Export current PDF (Ctrl+P), Export all PDFs, and Update status sheet.... The Draft watermark item in the same menu marks PDFs as drafts.
- Data menu: Export current CSV, Export all borings CSV, Export project JSON, Export GeoJSON (GIS), Export AGS4 (.ags), Export gINT CSV (.zip), and Export CAD drawings (.zip)...
- File menu: Export project file (.bhlp)... writes the whole project to a file you can import again later.
Try it first
Try the sample project.
On the start page choose Open sample project (or File > Start page to get back to it). The sample opens in your browser’s memory only: it is a demo, it is never saved, and it does not use credits. You can look around and use the export menus on it. Opening a real project, starting a new one, or importing replaces it.
